Sun Protection and Skin in Dubai's Climate

2026-09-15 · 5 min read

Dubai has sunshine for most of the year, and UV exposure continues even on hazy or cloudy days. Over time, repeated sun exposure is linked with pigmentation, uneven texture, dryness and visible signs of skin ageing. Understanding how the climate affects your skin is the first step towards looking after it sensibly.

Why the climate matters

Heat and humidity can make skin feel oily at one moment and tight the next. Moving between hot outdoor air and cool air conditioning can also reduce skin moisture, leaving it dry or reactive. For people with sensitive skin, rosacea or eczema, these swings may make symptoms more noticeable.

Pigmentation concerns such as sun spots or melasma are common questions in our consultations. Sun exposure is a well-known trigger for these changes, and darker skin tones can be prone to post-inflammatory marks after irritation or injury. This does not mean everyone will develop them, but it explains why sun habits matter.

Everyday habits that help

A broad-spectrum sunscreen applied daily is the cornerstone of most dermatology advice. Many clinicians suggest an SPF of 30 or higher, applied generously to the face, neck and other exposed areas, and reapplied if you are outdoors for long periods or swimming. Hats, sunglasses and seeking shade at midday add further protection.

Gentle cleansing and a moisturiser suited to your skin type can support the skin barrier, especially if you spend long hours in air-conditioned offices. Drinking enough water and avoiding harsh scrubbing are sensible additions, though they are no substitute for sun protection.

When to seek advice

If you notice a mole that changes in shape, size or colour, a sore that does not heal, or persistent pigmentation, it is sensible to have it examined by a clinician. At Fiore Medical Centre in JLT, a consultation can help you understand your skin, discuss routines and, where appropriate, talk through treatment options. Individual results and needs vary.
